Hydrodynamic computations of the light curve of the linear type IIL supernova 1979C are presented, with multigroup time-dependent radiation transfer taken into account. The computation method is briefly discussed. The equation of state and the absorption coefficient, including the Lyman jump, describe the ionization equilibrium not only for the case of equal temperatures of matter and radiation but also for sharp temperature differences. It is shown that the light curve of SN 1979C is satisfactorily reproduced in the model of a red supergiant in the case of the usual explosion energy of (1-2) x 10 exp 51 ergs, but with reduced hydrogen and helium envelope mass. The maximum brightness is naturally explained by reradiation of UV photons in the superwind envelope.
