The gravitational potential in the plane of symmetry of a spiral galaxy of the Sc type is analyzed. The gravitational potential is assumed to be derived from an axially symmetric galactic mass distribution, and from mass condensed in two symmetric spiral arms. Futhermore, the spiral arms are assumed to have constant circular sections. Refinements suggested for the gravitational potential model include the case in which the mass density is not constant throughout the spiral arms.
