Achondrites:Origin, Meteorites:Parent Bodies

Scientific paper

Four thin sections of Y-7308 have been examined petrographically. The authors first review briefly the lithological components relevant to their model and then propose their model of crystal fractionation of a single HED magma to account for crystallization of all known lithological components observed in the Y-7308 howardite. The proposed model permits better understanding of the evolution and origin of the HED parent body and can be tested using trace element data for HED meteorites.
