We present a model of the Galaxy which reproduces the galactic near infrared brightness distribution, as revealed by COBE, Spacelab and previous baloon observations. The model is based in part on the star-count model of Lepine and Ortiz (1994); it includes the contributions of the disk, the bulge, the bar and the spiral arms. The description of these components is based on general observations of external galaxies. We suggest that the disk presents a decrease of its contribution towards the center, instead of being a single exponential. The rotation curve of the Galaxy is shown to be in agreement with the mass distribution derived from model.
