The strong point source of IR radiation discovered by Becklin and Neugebauer in 1967, and named BN after them, is presently modeled as a massive star in formation. The radiation pressure of a star-like core of 14 solar masses and 10,000 solar luminosities is producing a dense shell near the dust sublimation radius within an extended gas-dust envelope, according to the new model.
