A model is proposed for a source moving faster than the speed of light in a vacuum and emitting Vavilov-Cerenkov waves in a vacuum. An exact solution is derived for the problem of a charged thread falling on the plane surface of an ideal conductor filling a half-space, emitting transient radiation upon incidence. Expressions are obtained for calculating the radiation field and energy flux.
