The controversy over the correct relativistic form for the electromagnetic energy momentum tensor valid in polarized (and magnetized) media still exists. The present paper shows that under the requirement that the total field and matter energy-momentum tensor be symmetric, Minkowski's tensor together with Eckart's nonsymmetry tensor is equal to the sum of Eckart's symmetric tensor with Abraham's tensor. It is concluded that both sums therefore lead to the same dynamical equations.
