A balloon-borne far IR spectrometer for the investigation of extended sources was developed. A technique for the large angle surveying of IR emission from the galactic disk was developed in which the microprocessor performs the on-board control and data processing. The performance of the device under both laboratory and environmental chamber conditions is described.
