Any investigation of an observed field must, as a first step, determine whether it is possible to confirm that the structure observed corresponds to physical reality. In other words, it must confirm that the observed deviation in the distribution of objects from a uniform distribution is not merely fortuitous. If this confirmation can be made, the characteristics of the observed structures must then be determined. To solve these problems, use of a random quantity - the average value of degree 2k of all the pair distances between the observed objects - is proposed.
