If one inserts the frequency multiplier between the variable frequency divider and the phase detector of the frequency synthesizer for a phase-locked loop, the noise performance index of the loop output signal can be improved without modifying the output frequency resolution and output frequency range, and the output minimal frequency step is smaller than the reference frequency. This method can raise the noise performence index of the loop output signal.
