The method of solving Poisson's equation for various spiral-type density disturbances in three-dimensional spiral galaxies is presented as well as the solutions. A method for determining the thickness of spiral galaxies is proposed, based on the solution of Poisson's equation for a logarithmic disturbance of density. As examples, four spiral galaxies (NGC 628 (M74), NGC 5194 (M51), NGC 5236 (M83) and UGC 2885) have been measured and their thicknesses (including error estimates) are given. The method is simple and applicable to most galaxies, except for nearby galaxies seen edge-on. Photographs of high quality are needed.
