A method of color excess determination for classical cepheids using data in the uvby-beta photometric system is proposed which is based on the establishment of three intrinsic relations corresponding to three different periods. Reddening values for three classical cepheids were determined from photometry of field stars. The present method does not require the introduction of the reddening line in the color-color diagram. The use of a mean color excess determined from three different color indices, and the consistency of the three reddening values, provide an indication of the reliability of the method. The method is applied to an analysis of 14 cepheids, and good agreement with other methods is found.
