A method is presented for determining the periods of variable stars; the technique is particularly suitable for cases in which a small number of discrete observations are available. The period determination technique, which involves multiple trials, yields better results than the method of Lafler and Kinman (1965). Detection and elimination of spurious periods from the data is also discussed.
