A nonparametric method is suggested for estimating the mass and luminosity functions of star clusters. Numerical simulations are used to show that the method is suitable for the analysis of observational data obtained with modern telescopes with small fields of view. A method is also suggested for the identification of possible luminosity (mass) function cutoffs at low stellar masses.
