From data on the cloud cover published by the USSR Hydrology and Meteorology Service, a relationship is derived which enables the monthly mean number of photometric nights at any station in the USSR to be determined from the number of clear days. A map of Central Asia charts the distribution of the annual mean number of photometric nights, and the annual number of days with various amounts of sunshine is tabulated for 10 Central Asian stations.
