A method for measuring wavelength shifts between solar absorption lines at the disk center and the corresponding lines produced in the Oxford furnace is described. The accuracy of the method is assessed, showing that shifts can be measured to better than 0.1 pm (1 mA). The method is demonstrated by observing the shifts of Fe I lines using, as reference, adjacent telluric lines and an instrumental fiducial. The method is applied to very faint solar lines by observation of lines from the (0, 0) Swan band of the C2 molecule, which give a mean redshift of 0.404 + or - 0.086 pm (4.04 mA) at the solar disk center.
