A method for delineating the regular geomagnetic field from an observed field of sufficient detail is considered which involves height scaling of the observed field and a subsequent transformation of the delineated field to earth's surface with the aid of an analytical regular-field model. The proposed method entails determining the height at which magnetic anomalies disappear and then lowering the field from that height to earth's surface. Results obtained using data on magnetic anomalies in the USSR show that the regular field can be delineated by this method with a systematic error 10 to 30 times less than that of the analytical regular-field model employed.
