Ground observations of the photosynthetically active (PAR, 380 -710 nm) and infrared (IRR, lambda greater than 710 nm) solar radiation at the Meteorological Observatory of the Moscow State University were used to develop a method for calculating these characteristics using sunshine duration data. Substantiated is the possibility of using the equations obtained for estimating mean values of PAR and IRR in a geographical region.
