The intensity fluctuations observed in the decameter-wavelength emission
of the quiet sun can be interpreted by a plasma mechanism rather than by
bremsstrahlung. The fluctuations would develop as the propagation of
acoustic wave trains through the corona modulates the optical depth of
the radio source.
