A mechanism for the destruction of interstellar dust particles is examined which is based on the concept that pulsed radiation from certain variable stars may generate elastic oscillations which destroy the particles under certain conditions. The critical density of absorbed elastic energy is computed for the cases of pulsed corpuscular and gamma radiation. The generation of elastic oscillations by pulsating X-ray sources is analyzed, and the Crab Pulsar is considered as an example. The results show that in some cases, the simultaneous action of corpuscular and X radiation on a solid particle must be taken into account.
