A mechanism for the decimetric variability of extragalactic radio sources is considered which involves the streaming of anisotropically distributed relativistic electrons in a regular bipolar magnetic-field structure. It is shown that in the framework of this mechanism the radio flux variations at decimetric wavelengths could be significantly more rapid than would be expected for structures of the size observed. Some qualitative properties of the variable radio emission that would be expected with this mechanism are discussed.
