Sensitive NIR observations have revealed the silhouette of a huge flared disk which is seen nearly edge on against the HII region of M17. The size of the disk is about 20000 AU and it is rotating with +-0.85 km s-1 at its outer edge. A bipolar optical nebula shows all spectral signs for accretion disk driven outflows. At the disk center, we find a faint elongated 2.2 micron source which is likely a massive protostar. Here, we present the latest VLT results from this spectacular object and discuss radiative transfer calculations that model the observations concerning the morphology and the density distribution of the disk.
