The magnetic field strength in the radio emitting shell of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A is discussed with regard to recent observations of gamma-ray emissivity. It is found that the nebular field must be larger than 8 x 10 to the -5th G, so that the expected bremsstrahlung gamma-ray flux does not exceed the observational upper limit of 10 to the -6th power per sq cm sec at 100 MeV. In addition, it is shown that this field strength must arise from magnetohydrodynamic instabiliies in the expanding shell.
