A previously-determined limit on the temperature profile imposed on early galaxies by the requirements of convective stability is used to calculate minimum binding masses for young galaxies. It is shown that the mass needed to bind galaxies is minimal when temperature drops rapidly with increasing radius at the periphery, a situation that has been detected with the Einstein Observatory X-ray data. The total mass of gas in the resulting dark halo, hydrostatic equilibrium, will exceed the mass of the galaxy from which it issues. The mass is computed from the temperature/radial distance ratios. An average total binding mass of at least 5 trillion solar masses is projected for early-type galaxies, yielding a mass/luminosity ratio higher than 74.
