A sharply defined lower bound in the subpulse-width vs. period diagram for pulsars is found for frequencies near 400 MHz. This lower bound has a very different functional form from that predicted by the polar-cap model of Ruderman and Sutherland (1975). It can, however, be explained in terms of the relativistic-beaming model if there is a relation between the corotational velocity of emission regions and pulsar period. Such a relation is supported by fits of relativistic polarization models to a small sample of pulsars. It is also found that for pulsars which, do not show drifting subpulses, the widths of subpulses can be closely approximated by the widths of the pulse components in the integrated profile. This may be useful in interpreting observations of very weak pulsars, for which it is impossible to analyze single pulses.
