The AAS Small Research Grant Program (SMRG) is an ongoing Society effort to provide funds to individuals for small research projects, which do not require a large amount of capital for completion. The program can also serve as a bridge grant for researchers between large research grants or as an initial grant for individuals just beginning their research career. The program provides funds for a variety of purposes including travel to observatories, publication expenses, computing needs, observing instrumentation and other needs. I will present a summary of the program over the ten years from 1990 to 2000, highlight some particular projects that capture the spirit of the program, provide application materials and tips for writing SMRG proposals and discuss the future of the program in the coming decade.
