We report here the discovery of a linear X-ray emission feature in a
ROSAT HRI image of the cluster of galaxies A399 which points at the
neighbouring cluster A401. We speculate on possible mechanisms for the
formation of this structure and conclude that it is most likely a
remnant of a previous interaction between these clusters.
