Two-color photoelectric light curves of the eclipsing binary system Hu Tau were analyzed for the first time with a light-curve synthesis method based on the Roche model. The analysis, which revealed that HU Tau has a semi-detached configuration, in which the more massive, smaller detached primary is eclipsed by the contract companion in the primary minimum (partial occultation), has settled the issue concerning the nature in the primary minimum of the system, i.e., whether it is either of the occultation type or the transit type. By combining the photometric elements derived here with the published spectroscopic data we obtained the absolute quantities of the system. It is concluded that HU Tau is an Algol-type system, comprising an unevolved B8 V star and a Roche-lobe-filling GO-3 IV star.
