A laboratory facility called UV Spectroscopy of Prebiological Interest in Titan Atmosphere (SIPAT) designed for investigating the structure and composition of the Titan atmosphere is presented. Its performance and program of future use are discussed. SIPAT fulfills all the conditions required for studying the mid-UV spectra of organic compounds of prebiotic interest at high resolution and for determining their absorption coefficients at pressures and temperatures close to those of Titan's high atmosphere. Cyanoacetylene, cyanogen, dicyanoacetylene, and diacetylene were detected in the north polar atmosphere of Titan by IR spectroscopy. Systematic studies are to be carried out on nitriles and polyacetylenes using this experimental facility.
