A sweep frequency device for the continuous monitoring of sudden ionospheric disturbances is described. The application of records in solar X-ray flare studies is emphasized. Analysis of data from 1982-1983 shows that the method is sensitive to solar flares with X-ray enhancement. Its results are in very good agreement with those reported from other stations using different methods, except for a few small disturbances.
