Line spectral absorption studies in the radio domain towards the continuum background offered by supernova remnants (SNR) reveal the distribution of the insterstellar medium gas along the line of sight and can set limits on the remnants? distance. Reliable distance estimates are important to determine intrinsic properties of a SNR such as size, explosion energy or expansion velocity. SNR Puppis A is middle-aged Galactic SNR for which X-ray observations provided the first glimpse into ~3000 year old cloud-shock interaction aftermath. Indeed, Puppis A has been suggested to interact with nearby molecular clouds on the morphological basis, but kinematic evidence is scarce and inconsistent. Thus we propose to observe HI and OH towards this SNR and establish with which clouds this SNR is interacting, study the density distribution of the ambient medium and derive accurate distance to this SNR. The OH results will have implicances on ground state and excited maser detection.
