The characteristics of a new type of imaging collimator, operating in the energy range 3.5-30 keV, are described. The collimator is part of an instrument (the 'Hard X-ray Imaging Spectrometer') which aims at the production of pictures in six energy bands and which has been proposed for the NASA Solar Maximum Mission. The properties of the collimator are compared with those of other imaging collimator devices and modulation collimator systems.
