Scientific paper

A grid of synthetic spectra is used to derive the atmospheric parameters temperature Teff, gravity log g and metallicity [M/H], besides the radial velocity, from low-resolution spectra of 41 stars in the Basel field SA 141 in the direction of the south galactic pole (l = 245°.0, b = -85°.8).
The metallicity distribution as a function of distance from the galactic plane is obtained and discussed.
