The pulsation of a spherically symmetrical nonmagnetic nonrotating variable star is investigated analytically, extending the time-dependent local-convection theory developed by Xiong (1977 in Chinese and 1978 in English translation) to account for nonradial oscillations. Six simplifying assumptions are imposed, and a set of equations is derived which is closed and rigorous, with no further suppositions or omissions. The statistical turbulent-convection theory employed involves the determination of the autocorrelations and cross correlations of the velocity and temperature fluctuations and permits the separation and solution of expressions for the steady and pulsating components, the steady-state solution being in agreement with the mixing-length theory of Vitense.
