A new general circulation model for the Jovian atmosphere is presented. The non-hydrostatic MIT GCM has been modified to include an interior heat source and to allow atmospheric circulation over a significant vertical scale. The anelastic approximation is used to filter out sound waves. We use an equation of state for Hydrogen and Helium mixtures which accounts for some of the complex interior thermodynamical processes. Here we present results of axisymmetric calculations using this model; we can resolve the interior convection and show how the interior convection and external forcing (which on the Jovian planets are on the same order of magnitude) drive the atmospheric dynamics.
