We present the results of a search for UV counterparts to the supersoft X-ray source (SSS) population in M31 using GALEX. We find 21 UV sources coincident with the positions of known SSS discovered by ROSAT, Chandra and XMM-Newton. For each we obtained aperture photometry in both the NUV and FUV bands. Correcting for extinction, we find several objects with UV luminosities of order 1038 erg/s. This is consistent with the emission expected from an accreting white dwarf undergoing shell burning, suggesting that at least some of the SSS in M31 are potential SN Ia progenitors. We also search for counterparts to recent novae in M31, and discuss how UV data can be used to constrain the nuclear burning timescale during outburst.
