A mode of fractional frequency harmonic generation obtained by the modulation of a square wave reference signal is considered. The produced spectrum exhibits a particular structure. The longer the fractional part of the frequency of the modulating wave is, the more figures the value of the frequency of the harmonic has. A comparison in terms of design purposes of component frequency generator blocks of frequency synthesizers is carried out.
