A flexible spectrometer architecture consisting of standard units that can be configured to meet different requirements is described. Future designs for larger systems and satellite applications are outlined. The spectrometer is a hybrid of an analog filter and digital autocorrelator design. Two applications for the spectrometer are presented. A balloon borne submillimeter radio astronomy spectrometer using a compact low power design is described. A millimeter imaging spectrometer with a much more powerful and flexible system is also described.
