The fourth galactic quadrant (1 = 270 to 355 deg) was surveyed in the CO (J = 2 - 1) transition at a wavelength of 1.3 mm, with the Estec-Utrecht submillimeter line receiver and the 1.4 m Coude Auxilliary Telescope (CAT). The CO (2-1) distribution in the quadrant is found to be clumpy and contains a number of 'holes'. The radial distribution of CO differs from that in the (northern) first quadrant and shows a broader maximum with peaks at R = 4 and R = 8 kpc. The cloud-cloud velocity dispersion is found to be very similar to that found in the northern hemisphere, on the order of 4 km/s. Computer generated maps of the CO(J = 2-1) distribution in the Galactic plane are provided.
