The authors discuss the feasibility of a FIR observatory in Antarctica. The results of measurements of precipitable water vapour, atmospheric transmission and noise in the millimetric windows are given. Very good atmospheric conditions have been found and the authors conclude that Antarctica provides a unique opportunity for ground-based IR observations.
