In a previous paper we presented emission-line fluxes for a sample of radio galaxies and quasars, and examined the levels of success that shock-excitation and single-phase photoionization models had in reproducing the observed line ratios. In this paper we propose a detailed structural model of the narrow-line region and compare its predicted line ratios with observed values. We find that it is able to reproduce most of the observed ratios, including the low [OIII] lambda5007/lambda4363 ratio, and examine whether it is in contradiction with observations.
