The authors present a description of the binary system SS 433, wherein the motion of the jets is obtained from basic aspects of the gravitational interaction expected in a close binary. If one assumes that the motion of the jets accurately reflects the motion of the principal axis of some object within the system, then it is shown that it is possible to understand that motion within the framework of driven or forced precession. The 163 day pseudoregular precession and the 6 day variations can be understood in terms of the forced precession of a nearly spherical, synchronously rotating object. Free parameters of the model are determined by means of nonlinear least-squares fitting to observed values of the Doppler shifts of the moving line spectra.
