For 30 years, the hourly resolution, periodically updated OMNI data set, a multi-source compilation of near- Earth solar wind magnetic field and plasma data and other data, has been used in many studies of solar wind variations and of solar wind-magnetosphere coupling. See http://omniweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/. But its value in the coupling studies has deteriorated because most such studies now require higher resolution solar wind data. We report creation of a draft 1-min-resolution, multi-source OMNI data set covering 1998. Input to this 1-min OMNI are spacecraft-specific 1-min-resolution field-plasma-merged data sets from ACE, Wind and IMP 8. The minute averages are based on 15 or 16 sec IMF data, and 1-min (approximately) plasma data, that have been shifted to (14, 0, 0 Re, GSE) using Weimer et al minimum variance analysis (MVA) code run against the IMF data. These spacecraft-specific data sets were presented at the December 2005 AGU Meeting. See http://ftpbrowser.gsfc.nasa.gov/sc_merge_min.html This presentation reviews briefly the assumptions behind the time shifts and discusses the parameters in the records of the draft 1-min OMNI data set, the criteria for assigning parameter values for a given minute when data are available for that minute from multiple sources, and the cross-normalizations among sources. With community feedback from this presentation, and possibly with updated MVA software, we will finalize the approach to creating the 1-min OMNI product and will, later in 2006, create and provide access to this product for the 1994-2005 interval.
