Strömgren four-colour and Hβ photometry has been obtained for 44 B supergiants in the Large Magellanic Cloud. As expected, nearly one-half of them have β indices which suggest emission at Hβ. From 24 stars which appear to be free from this emission, the β/c0/MV calibration of Balona & Shobbrook (1984), applied with a correction to the β index for the mean radial velocity of the LMC stars, indicates a distance modulus of 18.8±0.3.
