VLBI observations obtained with a 17-telescope array have yielded a radio image with less-than-10 mas resolution for the nearby, small angular size quasar 3C48. A highly disrupted radio jet, very different from the type found in standard high-luminosity radio sources, is noted to lie well inside the body of the quasar's gas-rich host galaxy; its irregular shape is suggested to be due to a collision with a dense clump of gas in the host galaxy's interstellar medium, rather than to precession or irregularity in the jet-generating central energy source.
