Oh-Ir Stars: Mass Loss, Oh-Ir Stars: Gas-To-Dust Ratios
Scientific paper
There are a series of semi-empirical formulae, which are used to calculate the mass loss rates of oxygen-rich AGB stars. The authors use several different formulae to calculate the mass loss rates of some Type II OH/IR stars and then analyse the obtained results. It is found that the mass loss rate derived from S25/S12(M˙12) does not agree well with that derived from the OH flux (M˙OH), and there seems to be a trend of M˙12>M˙OH, which may reveal the history of the increasing mass loss rate. The gas-to-dust ratio is obtained and then discussed. Finally, the mass loss rate of OH/IR stars is discussed.
