Two blue-light plates taken at the Asiago Observatory on 1987 December 20 show a Disconnection Event (DE, Niedner and Brandt, 1978) in the ion tail of Comet Bradfield 1987s. The authors obtain a radial velocity of the disconnected tail of ≈40 km sec-1. The ion tail reorientation associated to the DE is interpreted in terms of the wind-shock theory and is most likely explained by a decrement of the ecliptic polar component of the solar wind velocity of ≈20 km sec-1. The corresponding turning rate of the ion tail is ≈2°hr-1.
