Visual binaries constitute a substantial fraction of all nearby stellar systems. To date however they have been quite purposefully avoided by high-contrast imaging instruments due to an inability to suppress the bright glare of light from both stars simultaneously. We have begun a survey that will accommodate this large and important class of objects as targets. Our approach is to use a linear band-limited mask in concert with an off-axis optical configuration of the Hale 200" telescope that generates unprecedented near-IR image qualities. We are currently sensitive to tertiary brown dwarfs over a wide range of ages, and are developing the technology to push our detection capabilities, on both single stars and binaries, into the planetary-mass regime. We present here a description of the project and our preliminary results.
