A redshift dependence of the maximum distance out to which AGN can transport their relativistic particles, a distance on average smaller in the past than it is at present, was found for radio quasars by Miley (1971). Kapahi (1975) showed that the radio galaxy population probably shares this property with the extended radio quasars. Here, samples of radio elliptical galaxies complete to vastly different flux limits are used for the first time to separate redshift and luminosity dependences of the galaxies' linear sizes. Ram pressure in a medium with cosmologically varying density will naturally cause a dependence on redshift, but this cannot explain the steepness of the dependence implied here.
