The theory and performance of a high-pass digital filter for enhancing faint Fabry-Perot interferograms are considered. The filters involve the subtraction of low-pass median images (representing all of the lowest-spatial-frequency structural information of the interferogram) from the unprocessed image. The technique is shown to successfully reveal the distortions and splits in interferogram fringes of Comet Halley obtained in the 6563-A (H-alpha) line emission.
